Distant Suns began as a series of compositions sketched on a Yamaha QY20 during travels through India, Taiwan, and Australia in 1993–94. Created on the move, the pieces captured impressions of the shifting rhythms of unfamiliar places. In 1995, the original MIDI sequences were transferred to a Yamaha W7 Workstation in Bristol, UK, where they were reworked, expanded, and developed into fully realized compositions. While the arrangements evolved, the recordings retained the immediacy and spontaneity of the original sketches, preserving a sense of movement and distance that continues to define the work.
